Photography and Filming Guidelines

The Crow permits hand-held, non-flash photography for personal use in the museum galleries. No flash photography, video recording, auxiliary lighting, tripods, self-sticks, or commercial photography/videography are permitted anywhere in the galleries without prior explicit and written approval.

Commercial photography/videography must be arranged in advance with the museum’s development office and may involve a fee. Members of the press should contact the museum’s development office to request high-resolution images of artwork for editorial coverage of the museum. In-gallery filming and photography for editorial use must be arranged in advance.

The following guidelines apply to all photographers and film crews:

  • A complete list of equipment must be submitted to the museum at least 2 weeks prior to the shooting. All equipment used for the shoot is subject to the approval of Museum Collections staff and must be approved in advance; any additional equipment will not be permitted in the Museum.
  • The use of drones outside the museum is permitted, provided that the operation is under the supervision of a Remote Pilot in Command with a certification under FAA Part 107.
  • The Crow does not allow the use of tracks, dollies, ladders, drones, or boom mics in the galleries. Cameras should be connected to the operator’s body. Any operator with a large steadicam or gimbal rig must be accompanied by a dedicated spotter.
  • No artwork or gallery furnishings may be moved for a shoot; gallery lights cannot be adjusted for a shoot. Under no circumstances may artwork be touched.
  • Film crews must load in through the museum’s loading dock and sign in with security. All equipment and bags are subject to inspection upon entering and exiting the building.
  • All camera, lighting and sound equipment must be carried in an upright position, weighted to avoid tipping, and be placed at least ten (10) feet from the artwork. Total auxiliary lighting may not exceed 1200 watts.
  • Light should be reflected or bounced whenever possible rather than aimed directly at an object.
  • No food or drink is permitted in the galleries. Food and drink may be consumed in the museum’s Grab & Go area or outdoor courtyard.
  • A member of the museum staff will escort the crew at all times while inside the museum and will be present during the filming and photography.
  • It is requested that all film crews respectfully follow the museum guidelines and adhere to the agreed-upon schedule, arriving on time and loading out promptly once shooting has wrapped.
